Yeast cell factory for mRNA bioproduction

Yscript at 10th MSS Conference in Slovenia

From 3 to 7 June 2024, the Monolith Summer Symposium took place in Portoroz, Slovenia and Yscript was a big part of it. The event takes place every two years and the tenth edition was once again hosted by Sartorius BIA Separations, with Yscript partners Aleš Štrancar, Urh Černigoj and Rok Sekirnik as part of the symposium's scientific committee.

With the Yscript Progress Meeting taking place at the BIA Separations facilities end of May 2024, many partners took the opportunity to participate in the Monolith Summer Symposium shortly after. Our Coordinator Chantal Pichon (University of Orléans, INSERM) was one of the speakers and talked about ‘Bioproduction of messenger RNA: key benefits and challenges’. Evelin Nett from TRON presented a Scientific poster on her work in Yscript: ‘Depletion of production-related impurities improves the performance of self-amplifying RNA’. Of course, the hosts from Sartorius BIA Separations also took the opportunity to share their expertise on site:

  • Aleš Štrancar:
‘Orthogonal chromatography analytics to allow for faster process development and better in-process control’
  • Urh Černigoj:
‘Tailoring surface of chromatographic monoliths to achieve higher separation performance for large biomolecules’
  • Rok Sekirnik:
‘Chromatography in mRNA production: from analytics to purification’

The Monolith Summer Symposium puts a focus on purification solutions from process development to manufacturing, empowered by innovative analytics for emerging gene therapies and vaccines. It is organised in a hybrid format to combine in-person interactions with virtual accessibility. The next Monolith Summer Symposium in Slovenia is expected to take place in summer 2026.
